Description

Newly released and uncirculated 2023 Lunar Rabbit 1/10 Ounce gold bullion coins issued by the Perth Mint in Australia. These coins are part of the Perth Mint's Lunar series, which honours the Chinese Lunar calendar. 2023 marks the Year of the Rabbit, and the design of the coin features the animal on the front. The front of each coin features a Rabbit hopping in the grass. The word 'Rabbit' is written in both Chinese and English on the coin, and the year of minting, 2023, features at the bottom of the coin.

The reverse side of the coin features an image of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The words 'Elizabeth II' and 'Australia' appear at the top of the coin. The bottom of the coin depicts important information about the coin, including its purity of 9999, its weight of 1/10 ounce, and finally its face value. Each 1/10 Ounce coin has a face value of 15 AUD, which means that the government of Australia has guaranteed to back each coin to this value.

The Lunar series features the 12 animals of the Chinese Lunar calendar, with a different animal appearing each year. Each series lasts for a total of 12 years, and this is the coin's third series.

The Perth Mint is the official bullion mint of Australia, and it manufactures some of the most well-known bullion coins worldwide. The mint was initially opened in 1899 as part of the Royal Mint. At that time, the mint's primary responsibility was to manufacture gold sovereigns from the gold mined in Australia. At the time, Australia was part of the British Empire, and gold Sovereign coins were used worldwide to trade materials and goods. The Perth Mint remained under the control of the Royal Mint until the early 1980s when it became fully independent.

The Perth Mint manufactures a wide range of bullion coins that are sought after worldwide. The most famous is the Kangaroo series, which was first launched in 1986. Other well-known coins include the silver Koala and Kookaburra coins, and the platinum Platypus.
