Description

The 1/10 ounce 2022 kangaroo gold coin is a bullion coin minted with advanced technology, evident in the fine finish. The front of the coin bears the image of Queen Elizabeth II, wearing the state crown on the right profile. The face value, the name of the monarch, and the country of origin are also inscribed on the obverse.

The reverse bears the image of the iconic red kangaroo and a young joey hopping across Australian plains. The years of manufacturer, weight, and finer levels are also inscribed on the front.

Gold Kangaroo coins are a product of the Perth Mint founded in Western Australia. The original building stands as a landmark on Hay Street to date. The mint was founded after John Forrest the first Australian prime minister lobbied the British government. The prime minister had realized the important role gold mines would play in developing the economy of Western Australia.

From 1899 to 1931, the mint struck over 106 million gold sovereign coins. This represented half of the sovereign gold coins used in Australia and the British Empire.
