Front Design of the Mexican Gold Peso
The mint marks on the front of the Mexican Gold Peso features an inspiring image of Nike. Nike is the popular, winged, and inspiring Roman Goddess who symbolizes victory. The reason why the Goddess Nike is important to Mexicn is that she is considered the “Angel de la Independencia” which is an English to Spanish translation of the “Angel of Independence.” Behind the Goddess Nike, in the background are an inscription of the most iconic landmarks in Mexico, the Popocatepetl and the Iztaccihuati volcanoes. Below the front image is the coin’s face value of 50 Pesos and the coin’s year of mintage.
Rear Design of the Mexican Gold Peso
One thing you’ll notice on the rear side of the Mexican Gold Peso is the Eagle holding carrying a serpent in its beak. The Eagle is the Mexican coat of arms. The other smaller and more recent denominations of the coin feature the images of the revolutionary priest Don Miguel Hidalgo who was the front man in the liberation of the country from Spanish rule.
