Buy Silver Maple Leafs

23 Apr 2018 - Coins

The silver Maple Leaf coin is released annually by the Royal Canadian Mint, located in Ottawa. Although these coins are produced by the mint, this coin is a recognised coin issued by the Canadian government annually.

A History of the Silver Maple Leaf

The silver Maple Leaf was introduced to the bullion investment market in 1988, following on from the popularity of the gold Maple Leaf coin. The silver Maple Leaf was initially only introduced as a 1 Ounce silver Maple Leaf coin. This silver coin has grown to be one of the most popular silver bullion coins available to indiviuals looking to buy silver coins. In 2017, the Royal Canadian Mint also launched the 10 Ounce Maple Leaf coin.

The Royal Canadian Mint has not issued the Maple Leaf series in fractional increments, however they regularly issue special edition series of the silver Canadian Maple Leafs. Most recently, the mint has released the Silver Maple Leaf, Birds of Prey series and the Wildlife series. Due to the limited edition mintage of these series, the coins trade at a high premium over the standard silver Maple Leaf.

In 2014, the Royal Canadian Mint announced the introduction of new security features on the coin to prevent counterfeiting. These include a laser engraved Maple Leaf design on each silver coin located at the bottom, right hand side of the coin, next to the image of the Maple Leaf.

About the Silver Maple Leaf Coin

The silver Maple Leaf coin features an image of Queen Elizabeth II on the front, with the coin's face value and year of minting located at the bottom. Each 1 Ounce silver Maple Leaf coin has a face value of $5 CAD. The 10 Ounce silver Maple Leaf coin has a face value of $50 CAD.

The reverse side of the coin features an image of a Canadian Maple Leaf coin. The coin's purity of 99.99% fine is located to the left and to the right of the coin, and the laser inscribed Maple Leaf is located to the bottom of the coin on all silver Maple Leaf coins minted after 2014.

Silver Maple Leaf coins are typically sold in a tube of 20 or 25 pieces, depending on the year of minting. The tubes the silver coins are sold in are issued by the Royal Canadian Mint, and contain the RCM logo on the lid. These silver coins are really popular with individuals investing in silver, and a particular favorite for those investing in silver coins. For this reason, these coins are regularly purchaed as a silver Maple Leaf Monster Box of 500 pieces.

In response to the high demand for the silver Maple Leaf coin series, the Royal Canadian Mint has also released a 10 Ounce silver Maple Leaf bar. Each bar contains the RCM logo, with the weight and fineness of the metal below. These bars come with a serial number, and also contain 99.99% pure silver bullion. These silver bars are popular because the premium they carry is lower than that of the silver Maple Leaf coins. However, the silver Maple Leaf coin series contains a legal tender value issued by the Canadian government, which can have tax benefits to certain investors, depending on their country of residence. For individuals looking to purchase silver coins or silver bars, the Royal Canadian Maple Leaf products are an excellent choice. SwissBullion.eu sell the silver Maple Leaf series for Swiss VAT-free vault storage, or for delivery.
